Patience Gloria, a Chicago based indie pop band, is laying claim to releasing the first song of the New Year, and new decade.   On January 1st at 12:00 AM they posted their song “Possibility” as a free download on their website www.PatienceGloria.com.  Aptly titled, “Possibility” speaks to the endless opportunities for love if one simply changes their attitude.  The band wanted the first song of the New Year, and new decade, to send a positive message to the world.

“The song itself is a New Years Resolution.” Says Charlie Malave, vocalist and music composer of “Possibility”.  “Every listen is a reminder that love can come in the flash of a second.”

With reflective versus and a hopeful chorus, “Possibility” comes in at just over two and half minutes.  The chorus insists that “Love could be around the corner / across the street / under the rain yeah.” The song closes with the promise that “You’re gonna believe in the possibilities.”

“The first song of the new decade should be one of hope.”  Says lyricist Michael Dobbins.  “If I’m looking 10 years down the road, I’d like to start with the glass half full.”

The musical arrangement of “Possibility” is bouncy with a strong backbeat accompanied by lots of little percussion and sweet harmonized guitars. The vocals blend a jovial attitude tinged with a sense of urgency.  Even the casual music listener can understand the mostly metaphorical lyrics.

Unspoken is the fact that an indie band has taken the initiative to release the first song of the new decade, pointing perhaps to another example of the decline in power and creativity of large record companies.

Patience Gloria was formed in 2008.  They are a unique band in that Charlie Malave arranges all of the music while Michael Dobbins writes the words but plays no instrument.  Their sophomore album “Consequences David” is scheduled for release in February.  Their debut album “About a Girl” is available for free on the band’s website.
